Days left to help win the election: 13
New volunteer registrations: 11 (today's goal was 9)
New grassroots donations: $2,375 (today's goal was $150)
By tripling the number of new volunteers and supporters for community based voter mobilization groups every day, we'll win in a blue wave. Invite 5 friends now to keep the momentum going.
If you don't live in a purple state, one of the most effective things you can do is phonebank into one. But, there's a catch: not all phonebank programs are equally effective. Some have much better training than others, and much more efficient dialing systems so you end up talking to real people, one after the other, instead of real answering machines. And, a tiny fraction of organizations will train you to have the most effective kinds of conversations—that actually persuade people, and don't require a deep memory of facts. People's Action is at the top of our list for all these reasons.
TODAY'S VOLUNTEER PRIORITY
DEEP CANVASS PHONEBANK w/People's Action
* Canvass locally instead if you live in GA, MI, MT, NC, NV, PA, WI, CA-13, CA-22, CA-27, CA-41, CA-45, ME-02, NE-02, NJ-07, NM-02, OR-05, VA-02, or WA-03. House district lookup.
**Under 30? Phonebank fellow young voters with Sunrise Movement.
TODAY'S DONATION PRIORITY
MOVEMENT VOTER PROJECT
While candidate campaigns come and go with each election cycle—raising and then spending bucketloads of cash and staffing all the way up and then all the way down—community based groups build power and relationships consistently over time. An organization called Movement Voter Project vets, supports and funds hundreds of these groups, with a strategic focus on battleground states and districts. A donation to MVP will generate more Democratic votes up and down the ballot and more durable impact than a donation to the Harris campaign.
WEDNESDAY, OCT 22
1. Text a Friends for Kamala invite to a friend or five or all of them who probably care. Sample message below.
2. Make a donation to Today's Priority, above. Dig deep, knowing your support will be high leverage.
3. Signup for a volunteer slot with Today's Priority, above. For most people, the volunteering itself isn't the hard part—it's knowing what's most helpful. We've taken care of that so all you have to do is find a time and start helping.
SAMPLE FRIEND INVITE
Hey, I’m sending this msg to all my friends who care about the election and asking you to do the same. It started with a group called Fifty Freedoms that’s saying two critical things others aren't: First, forget polls and enthusiasm, the election will be decided by the efforts of volunteers in key places, and we need way more of us to activate. Obama had 2 million helpers; Kamala only has around 400k. Second, Harris is flush with cash, but the grassroots groups that best use volunteers to reach infrequent voters are severely underfunded. Here are the two asks: 1. Send this msg to your people even if that’s all you can do. 2. Go to fiftyfreedoms.org/friendsforkamala to see today’s top funding and volunteer priority and do the things!
LET'S GO!
THESE 8 PRINCIPLES ARE BUILT INTO EVERYTHING WE DO AND EVERYTHING WE SUGGEST YOU DO.
1. Before anything else, help your friends get involved, too—imagine what ten of you could do in a month
2. Help friends vote before helping strangers
3. Maintain contact throughout the cycle with friends and strangers you reach
4. Do partisan voter registration
5. Donate $ where it's most needed vs. requested loudest*
6. Donate $ to campaigns that build power through election cycles*
7. Donate $ and time to downballot candidates*
8. Do it with friends to make it more fun, so you all do it more
But wait, there's more! On a Freedom Call, you'll also learn stuff like how to stop getting bombarded by donation requests and how we plan to leverage Kamalamentum for change after the election.
* Yes, this means we recommend diverting time and money you would have given directly to the Harris-Walz campaign.
JOIN A FREEDOM CALL TO LEARN AND BEGIN PRACTICING OUR TECHNIQUES FOR WINNING ELECTIONS IN JUST 30 MINUTES
Inspired by the more than 150 groups organizing around shared identity and profession for Kamala Harris, we noticed a gap and an opportunity. We need to engage more people, in taking more action, more effectively. And we need to do it quickly:
Forget the vibes and polls: the winner of the presidency will be determined by the efforts of engaged groups of volunteers in a few key states.
The gold standard of presidential campaigns—Obama ‘08—had two million volunteers. The Harris-Walz campaign most recently reports having just 400,000. So, despite all the amazing energy we’ve seen in support of Kamala Harris, we still only have about 50/50 odds of winning the election. Considering the stakes, that's very bad news.
And while the Harris-Walz campaign is brimming with cash, the critical grassroots groups that are best equipped to reach infrequent voters are severely underfunded.
